Dedicated To Your Health and Well
Being
The
Operating Room team consists of your surgeon, your surgeon's assistant,
the anesthesiologist, a scrub nurse and a circulating nurse.
Your anesthesia team will consist of an Anesthesiologist and a Nurse
Anesthetist. The Anesthesiologist is a medical doctor specially trained
in perioperative care. The Anesthetist is a specially trained Registered
Nurse.
During your Pre-Admission Testing Visit or on the day of surgery
you will meet your anesthesia team. They will interview you and review
your medical record. Once the Anesthesiologist has determined that
your medical condition is satisfactory, they will discuss the anesthesia
chosen that best suits your particular situation.
The RNFA has completed additional education and training to deliver
direct surgical care. The RNFA directly assists the surgeon by controlling
bleeding, and by providing wound exposure and suturing during the
actual procedure. The RNFA is also involved with your care before
and after your surgery.
The circulating nurse’s duties are performed outside the sterile
field. The circulating nurse is responsible for managing the nursing
care within the operating room. The circulating nurse observes
the surgical team from a broad perspective and assists the team in
creating and maintaining a safe, comfortable environment for your
surgery. The circulating nurse makes sure each member of the surgical
team performs in a united effort.
The scrub nurse or surgical technician works directly with the surgeon
within the sterile field passing instruments, sponges and other items
needed during the surgical procedure.
