Where
do you turn for help when a loved one
is terminally ill,
needs more care than you can give at home, but does not need to be
hospitalized in a traditional facility?
St. Francis Medical Center and Compassionate Care Hospice have partnered
to provide a much-needed option for terminally ill patients
and their families. A fourteen-bed
hospice unit is dedicated exclusively to the needs of the hospice
patient.
Compassionate Care Hospice is pleased to be able to offer the best
short-term hospice care
in an inpatient setting. This unit reflects St. Francis's
dedication to providing comprehensive, caring service to the community.
Located in a private wing of the hospital, the
hospice unit features warm homelike
patient rooms. A family room, quiet room, and kitchen all
add to the homelike atmosphere.
Hospice care is widely considered to be the model for quality, compassionate
care at the end of life. It incorporates a team-oriented approach
for expert medical care and pain management. It also places a high
priority on providing emotional and spiritual support expressly tailored
to the needs and wishes of patients and their families.
Hospice staff are trained to anticipate, assess, treat and prevent
all types of physical symptoms that cause discomfort. Hospice
care focuses on the belief that each of us should be able to die pain
free and with dignity.
The Medicare Hospice Benefit guaranties comprehensive, high quality
end of life care at little or no cost to terminally ill beneficiaries
and their families.
Patients receiving home hospice care may receive respite care in
the Compassionate Care Hospice Unit at St. Francis Medical Center.
