Applications will be be accepted from September 1st through December 15th each year and must be accompanied by a $50.00 non-refundable application fee. New Entrance Testing Requirements effective Fall 2011! All program applicants are required to take ATI's Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET V). Please see ENTRANCE TESTING below for testing dates, registration procedures and required fees. Additional information can be obtained by contacting the school at (609)599-5234. Thank you!

  Minimum admission requirements for the St. Francis Medical Center School of Radiologic Technology are as follows:

  1. Graduation from an accredited high school or satisfactory completion of a General Education Diploma (GED)
  2. College level Algebra (3 credits) with a “C” or better *
  3. College level English Composition I (3 credits) with a “C” or better*
  4. English Composition II with Speech (3 credits) with a “C” or better (Separate
    English Composition II OR Oral Communication courses are acceptable.)*
  5. Achievement of a Reading Score at or above the National mean on the Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET V).
  6. Three professional letters of recommendation
  7. Submission of an official high school transcript and official transcripts from ALL other educational institutions attended since high school. Applicants submitting transcripts from institutions outside the United States must have these transcripts translated and evaluated by an accredited
    credentialing service.
  8. Interview by program officials (by invitation only)
  9. All SFMC Radiography students must complete college level Anatomy and  Physiology I and II
    (4 credits each) with a “C” or better. If these courses are not complete prior to the start of the Radiography program, accepted students must meet  the prerequisites for these courses as established by the college.
    See Program Officials for further information. Preference is given to applicants who have successfully completed these courses.
             

      * A credit granting score on the CLEP exam is also acceptable.

    Prior to enrolling, all accepted applicants must:

       1. Undergo and successfully pass a criminal background check, required for all
           students. In order to take part in the educational program an applicant
           must not have been convicted of or pled guilty to a violent crime, illegal sale,
           use of or theft of controlled dangerous substances, or a sexual offense. An
           applicant whose criminal background check discloses a conviction or unresolved
           arrest for a crime or misdemeanor that could jeopardize the health, safety or
           welfare of any patient, employee, student or visitor may also be barred from
           entrance to the School. The criminal background check will be conducted by an
           external service provider in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

       2. Undergo and successfully pass a 10-panel drug screening.
       3. Submit health history, physical examination and immunization records with all
           required immunizations and immune titers.
       4. Submit documentation of medical insurance coverage.
      

  The admissions procedure is as follows:

  1. All interested applicants receive an application packet which includes an  Application, application instructions, a Program Brochure, a Radiology Career Fact Sheet, and a School Profile. 
  2. Applicants are required to submit the completed application with essay, a $50.00 (fifty) dollar non-refundable application fee, and three (3) letters of  recommendation. The applicant must request official high school transcripts and  ALL transcripts from institutions of higher learning. ALL transcripts must be sent directly to the School of Radiologic Technology by the issuing institutions.
  3. Upon receiving the completed application and ALL official transcripts, the transcripts are evaluated for high school diploma or GED and pre-requisite coursework. Pre-requisite coursework can be in progress, or scheduled to be completed prior to the next School of Radiography start date. A class schedule must be provided as evidence of enrollment. Once these requirements are satisfied, the applicant is scheduled for the Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET V), which is given at the Medical Center. If the applicant has taken the  Health Occupations Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET V), or other health occupations aptitude exam for entrance into another program, he/she may request that an official copy of those results be sent to St. Francis Medical Center School of Radiologic Technology.
  4. Upon receipt of the test results, an Academic Evaluation is conducted by  Program officials. The Academic Evaluation assesses the results from the HOBET V Examination, Algebra and other higher level math courses, and academic sciences such as high school Biology and other higher level science courses. A minimum score of 9 out of 15 points and a minimum passing score (at or above the National mean) on the reading section of the HOBET V Exam is required to proceed in the application process. Applicants who do not score a 9 or higher on the Academic  Evaluation are notified by mail and college level preparatory coursework may be suggested.
  5. Once the applicant has progressed through the Academic Evaluation, an interview and observation day is scheduled. At this time the Clinical Coordinator (or designee) takes the applicant on an extensive tour of the Radiology department. The applicant observes the Radiology Department on a   weekday morning (usually 8:30-11:30 AM). The applicant observes the daily operation of a Radiology department and talks to current students and technologists. An interview will also be conducted
    by the Program Director.  The applicant is also required to review the Student Catalog and other Program policies.  At the conclusion of the interview/observation, the applicant will be
    rated utilizing the Application Review Report form by three (3) separate  individuals: a) the Program Director on interview, b) the Clinical Coordinator (or designee) during observation, and c) a member of the  Admissions Committee who rates the candidate by paper documents only.  The Application Review report evaluates the applicant based on academic background, professionalism,
    communication skills, motivation, dependability and cooperation.
  6. On or about March 1st of every year an offical Admissions Committee Meeting  will be scheduled. 
    At this time applicants with the top eight (8) Application Review Report scores will be selected for admission.  The Program also selects up to fine (5) alternate applicants.
  7. An extension of the application deadline is at the sole discretion of Program Administration in consultation with the Director of the School of Nursing and  Allied Health.

ENTRANCE TESTING Effective September 2011

The Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET V) is administered at St. Francis Medical Center for all School of Radiologic Technology applicants. The HOBET V may be taken up to two (2) times in an admission cycle with a minimum of a month lapse between each testing date. All applicants MUST register in advance for the entrance exam. There is a $60.00 fee to take the exam.

    • Select "Shop Online"
    • Select HOBET exam from the left menu
    • Select TRENTON< NJ and our school name
    • Select your preferred testing date
    • You will be prompted to "Create an Acount," Complete registration and print confirmation page for your records.
      The exam takes approximately three and one half (31/2) hours to complete. Study Guides and Practice Tests can be obtained online through the ATI website for an additional fee. On the day of testing, applicants MUST bring the following mandatory items and report to CREAN HALL OFFICE OF STUDENT AFFAIRS.
      Photo ID (ex. Driver's License, School ID); No. #2 Pencils.

The HOBET V Exam will be given on the following dates beginning at 10:00AM:

  • November 18, 2011
  • December 16, 2011
  • January 13, 2012
  • January 27, 2012

Paking is available in the Medical Center garage (entrance on Chambers Street). If you park on the local streets be sure to observe posted parking regulations.
In the event of an emergency Cancellation examinees may call (6090-599-5239) after 6:00am on the day of the exam for a recorded message. If you do NOT hear a special announcement regarding the exam, you can assume the exam will be given as scheduled.
